1. Considering licencing applications by organizations and workers in the field of radiation, and the issuance of licences in this regard.
Preparing regulations and systems and the requirements of work in the field of radiation, including the permissible limits of radiation exposure, and managing radioactive waste and the conditions of transport and storage of radioactive materials and labour, in accordance with the provisions of the governing laws.
Inspecting the facilities, business and practices that involve radioactive sources or devices that release radiation, the hardware and places that have been affected by radiation, as well as participating in border control.
Setting contingency plans and nuclear safety procedures in the event of a radioactive accident, and adoptingcontingency plans for installations and institutions that own the equipment and radioactive sources, in cooperation with the competent authorities.
Setting standards for Radiological Environmental Quality control, in coordination with the concerned administrative unit.
Establishing and operating a network of early warning systems against leakage of radioactive and hazardous materials.
Preparing national projects for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, in coordination with the various bodies in the State.
Coordinating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to obtain technical and financial support for the implementation of national projects.
Coordinating and supervising training plans and rehabilitation of workers in the field of nuclear applications, and the use of training grants provided by international institutions and bodies in this area.
Contributing to the implementation of regional projects relating to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
Preparing plans and programs to deal with hazardous materials and developing standards and requirements of prevention and safety when handling such materials.
Preparing regulations and technical guidelines for the prevention of environmental hazards caused by poor circulation, import or export, storage or transportation, or packing of hazardous materials.
Cooperating with international bodies in following up banned and restricted hazardous substances, and taking appropriate action at the national level.
Establishing environmental standards for the transportation, packaging and storage of hazardous materials, according to the regulations in force in the world.
Adopting licencing models relating to the circulation of hazardous materials and waste.
Assessing licence applications to trade, import or export, store or transport or package hazardous materials, and issuing licences in this regard and following-up their duration of effect.
Identifying proper locations for the treatment and disposal of harmful substances and hazardous waste, and allocating plots of land in such locations to that end, in coordination with the competent authorities.
Managing the data base of hazardous materials exported from and imported into the State, and working on the continuity of development and modernization thereof, in coordination with the concerned authorities.
Issuing permits for dealing with waste, in accordance with regulations approved in this regard.
